Ellsworth senior Dan Curts opened his 2013 season on his home course Saturday, the defending Class B individual champion showed his summer training has him in late season form already. Curts blitzed the 3 mile course in a personal best 15:43.12, the time was 1:22 faster than runner-up finisher Brayden Beardsley. A year ago Dan opened his season the same course clocking 16:06.

Ellsworth who is currently ranked #3 in the state just missed a perfect score as they finished 1-2-3-4-6, good for 16 points. The aforementioned Beardsley showed he's ready for his senior season as he ran 1:09 faster than a year with his 17:05 effort. Next was Robert Looker & Cooper Holmes in 3rd & 4th, Looker edged out Holmes 17:22.33 to 17:22.38.

John Bapst's Connor Wagner broke up the Ellsworth train with his 5th place finish, Wagner covered the 3 mile course in 17:36, he was followed 3 seconds later by the Eagles 5th man, senior Frank King.

Aleta Looker repeated as the Ellsworth Invitational champion as she ran to a 34 second win covering the 3 mile layout in 19:35. Looker is expected to be one of the top individuals in Class B this season.  MDI's Maggie Painter led the two defending state champion Trojans to an easy team win. Painter paced MDI with a ssecond consecutive runner-up finish, she ran 20:06. They were followed by junior Waylon Henggeler in 3rd, Henggeler improved on a 6th place finish last year with a fine, 20:22 clocking.

Orono's Lily Koffman showed top form with her 4th place finish, Koffman the state runner-up a year ago in Class C earned a victory over 3 time Class C state champion Carysn Koch. Koffman ran 20:30 with Koch one place back in 5th running 20:39. This will be something to watch as the season moves on as Koch has been the domintae runner in Class C for 3 years.

MDI had 5 of the top 11 finishers to tally 29 points for the team victory with Class C defending champion, Washburn in second with 83, & Class C Orono third with 100. MDI once again has the quality and depth to make it 3 Class B titles in a row, the Class C matchup between Washburn & Orono will be one to watch all season.
