MRC Performance of the Week: Aleta Looker & Will Shafer

Another race another strong performance from Aleta Looker. Looker came close to etching her name in the all-time record books last Friday in the 800m at the Terrier Classic as she ran the 4 lap indoor race in a personal best 2:13.87. The time is the second fastest indoor 800m ever run by Maine high school girl.  The effort ranks Aleta #7 in the US, and #2 in New England. Looker is also the state leader in the mile, will be one of the favorites to win Class B state titles in both disciplines."

"B.U. has a fast track and I was feeling fantastic - can't wait to see what some real pace work with spikes (instead of snowy roads) will bring for my next shot at 800 meters!" Aleta said about her race. It's only January so plenty of time left for the Georgetown bound senior to improve and take over the top spot.

Will Shafer has had a great to start to his indoor track career this winter, and last weekend's mile was no exception. Running the 8 lap race for the second time this season, the Dartmouth bound senior ran  a 4:19.5 to lower his already state leading time a little over 2 seconds. Shafer is the current state leader in both the mile & 800m, and ranks 2nd in the 2 mile. Shafer's mile time has him ranked 8th in New England, he also is the #2 ranked 800m runner, and 28th in the 2 mile.

Congratulations to Aleta & Will for being selected for the Maine Running Company Performance of the Week
