Geoghegan will do 5th year at Oregon

Former Brunswick high school & current Dartmouth college distance standout Will Geoghegan will use his final season of eligibility to compete for the Oregon Ducks.

Will Geoghgean, the current Dartmouth College standout and former mulitple time state champion from Brunswick, Maine announced earlier this week via Twitter that he would be using his indoor and outdoor track season eligibility on the west coast, competing for the defending indoor national champion and famed program of Oregon.

MaineTrackXC talked briefly with Geoghegan this weekend for more insight into his decision. What other schools did he consider to pursue his masters degree in computer and information science? "I considered Oregon, colorado, texas, stanford, and ohio state" Geoghegan commented.

2013-14 has been a big year for Geoghegan who earned All-American honors in cross-country with a 14th place finish in NCAA D1 Championships, he covered the wet and muddy course 10k course in 30:22.1. He followed that up during the indoor season with a 5th place finish in the Mile, to earn his second All-American award of his senior year.

At the indoor national championships, Will watched the Men of Oregon hoist National Championship trophy, and then flew to Orgeon to visit with Coach Andy Powell to discuss his options for next year. Why did Will choose Oregon? "I visited Eugene after indoor NCAAs and I was really impressed by the way Coach Powell runs the distance program. It's a great group of guys, a great place to train, a great coach, and Eugene is the track capital of the world", Geoghegan said.

This winter Will also broke 4 minutes in the mile at the BU Terrier Classic when he clocked 3:58.04, the time also set a new school record Dartmouth and was an Ivy League record too. Watch the mile below
