Waterville sweeps KVAC Class B for 9th time

The Waterville girls track dynasty continued its winning ways as it overpowered the competion in the KVAC Class B meet at Morse on Saturday. The Panthers amassed 190.50 points en route to their 9th straight conference title, Belfast was the runner-up with 72 points.

Rachel Bergeron led the way in throwing arena as she took the top spot in the shot put (36-5) & discus (108-4), the senior will enter the Class B state meet as the #1 in both events. Sarah Shoulta was also a double winner as she took first in the 100m hurdles 15.75, that mark is the fastest in Class B, teammate Kellie Bolduc was second with a 16.04 (Class B #2). Shoulta added her second win with a 10-0 clearance in the pole vault also a Class B leading mark.

Waterville also picked up win from Kellie Bolduc in the triple jump (34-10) & freshman Katie Lopes in the high jump (5-2)

Belfast's Cassidy Hill was a triple winner as she sweep all three sprinting events. Hill won the 100m in a fine 12.98, then added a 60.97 to take the 400m, before closing it out with a 26.46 clocking to win the 200m. For good measure Hill ran a leg on the winning 4x400m relay to close the meet out. Cassidy is ranked #2 in Class B in all three individual evetns.

Camden Hill's Brittany Bowman won the 1600m (5:29.09) & the 3200m (12:06.52). Teamate Melissa Kessel won the 300m hurdles in a fast 47.34, that mark is Class B #1 & state #2.

Morse's Savannah Simmon-Grover won the javelin with a bomb on 115-3, that distance leads all of Class B.

 

The Waterville boys had a close meet than the girls but in the end they were 30 points better than runner-up Belfast. Like the girls this was the 9th conference title in a row for coach Ian Wilson's squad.

Waterville got a 1-2-3 finish in the 110m hurdles with Troy Gurski (15.59), Jordhan Levine (15.79) & Shahzaib Khan (16.03) which got the ball rolling.Levine added a win in the 300m hurdles clocking 41.77 & ran a leg on the winning 4x400m relay team.

Others winners for Waterville were Billy Chambers in the 1600m racewalk in 8:07.38 & Trever Gray in the discus (145-6), Gray's distance is the best on Class B. Chris Cote was tops in the 3200m (9:54.36) winning by just .62

Levi Lapham of Belfast had a big clearance of 6-4 to win the high jump his mark ranks him #1 in Class B & state. Lapham should is versatlity as he won the javelin with a strong throw of 160-9.

Drew Nealey led a 1-2-3 sweep if the pole vault for Belfast, Nealey cleared 13-0 as did Curtis Warren, while Walker Roberts jumped 12-0.

Camden Hill's Ben Trapani was a double winner in the distance races. Trapani won the 1600m in 4:27.29 then doubled back in the 800m (2:04.42)
