Record breaking day at Lake Region Invitational

Boys Results | Girls Results

Today was a record setting day for a pair of runners at the Lake Region Invitational. Matt Malcom and Hannah Austin of NYA both turned in record runs of 15:00 and 17:59 on the 2.8 mile course.

The boys race was dominated by Malcom from the get go as he took the field out in a fast clip going through the first mile in 5:08. He finished 24 seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher Ben Breton who is one of the top 15 Maine XC runners from the 2013 season. Breton’s 2nd place finish helped pace the Eagles to a repeat win at the invitational staving off a strong challenge from Fryeburg Academy (48-50). Westbrook rounded out the top 3 with 60 points. Patrick Carty and TJ Rose of Fryeburg finished 3-4 with Josh Lombardo of Westbrook capping off the top 5

On the girl’s side, Hannah Austin wasted no time getting out front. She led the entirety of the race going through her first mile in 6:02 and never looking back. XC newcomer Gabbi Pabst of Westbrook put in a strong performance with time of 18:37 to finish second and help lead the Blazes to the win. The Blazes were led by the strong duo of Gabbi Pabst and Halee Phelps who helped hold off a big late challenge from Windham for the 43-46 victory. Fryeburg Academy was 3rd with 100 points led by Anna Lastra’s 3rd place finish. Also having a strong race was Lake Regions Audrey Blais who is most certainly a runner to watch in Class B this fall

The Windham boys were victorious over Fryeburg by a 48-50 margin

Westbrook opened their season with a 3 point win over Windham 43-46.
