EMITL opens season with some fine performances

The EMITL (PVC) indoor track season got underway on Saturday at the New Balance Field House at the University of Maine. Check out the highlights


Meet #1

EMITL: BAN, BUC, FOX, HAM, MAT, OT

Mattanawcook's Tia Tardy set a high school facility record in the long jump as the sophomore posted a huge mark of 17-4, that is the 3rd best mark in the state. She also blitzed the 800m winning it is 2:23.79, the #2 time in the state.

Elizabeth Labun helped Hampden to victory as she won the Mile in 5:49.02 & then the 2 mile in 12:37.99.

Mavis Taungatu's of Bucksport won the shot put with the 3rd best distance in the state this winter, 33-4 1/2.

Old Town's Nicolas Boutin opened his senior season with an impressive 6.77 clocking, the mark is state #2, and tops in Class B, he would come back later to win the 200m in 24.10.

Robert Frye of Hampden had a strong meet as he won the Pole vault with a 12-0 clearance, and also won the 400m in 55.13.

Also winning two events was Charles Moody of Old Town who took the 55m hurdles in 8.54, and leaped 19-3 1/2 to take the long jump

Meet #2

Brewer's Gretchen Wright was the star of meet as the sophomore won the 55m hurdles in the state leading time of 9.26, she also added the 3rd best triple jump mark in the state with her 33-5 3/4 effort.

Lauren Stoops of Orono had a strong opening 400m effort as she won in 63.97, the 3rd best performance statewide this season.

Erick Seekins of Brewer had a huge opening meet winning three events. In the long jump he jumped 20-5 1/4 which is the #2 mark in the state, and he is 1 of only 2 jumpers over 20 feet this early in the season. He added a 6-0 clearance to win the high jump, and then raced his way to a speedy 23.84 in the 200m which has him 3rd statewide.

Sumner's Baramee Janla was a double winner as he won the 55m in 6.88 and then won the 400m in 54.16.

Tristan Butterfield of Orono opened with a strong winning effort in the 800m as he clocked 2:05.53.
