Thoughts on Training and Racing

Follow North Yarmouth Academy senior Hannah Austin during her senior indoor season. Austin finished third in Class B 2 mile a year ago, and returns as one of the individual favorite to win 2 mile title this winter. While she is small in stature she certainly makes up for with her grit & determination.

Hi again!

Right now, I'm sitting on my couch watching the snow fall outside. I'm glad I got my run in early this morning before it came. I've never been a huge fan of snow, mostly because snowy roads make running pretty difficult, but this year I've been especially disappointed since so far, the snow we've had has 'conveniently' come at a time when a snow day wouldn't be possible! I'm glad that we had our meet yesterday instead of today, sorry to those whose meets got canceled today, that's never fun.

This past week was finally good training-wise for me. Because of my injury, coupled with the frigid weather that we've had the past couple weeks, I haven't really been able to get much good solid running in; my first interval workout of the whole season was last Tuesday! It felt great to finally get one in, though it's obviously very late in the season to be just starting. I'm just happy to be able to run injury-free. I was also happy with how the meet yesterday went, not only because I finally feel like I'm starting to get back to where I was last outdoor track season, but also because my team had yet another great night! We got lots of PRs or season bests, and a few people tried events for the first time and did really well! This meet was especially fun because after the last running events had finished up, the triple jump was still going on because it was running a little late from the meet before us. My whole team gathered around to watch two of our teammates who were competing in the event. It was really great to have some time after my race to be able to just relax and watch my teammates compete, which is sometimes hard to do since the 2mile, my primary race, is very near the end of the meet. It also gave me more time to cool down after my race as well, which was really nice. Cooling down after the 2mile can be challenging, since once the race finishes up the meet is almost over and the 4x200 relay is going on, which often makes it hard to run on the track. I was pretty tired after the meet though, since it was a late meet this time. Though the late meets can be very tiring, my team always has a team dinner before we head over, and these are really fun, and there's always good food, which is a plus!

I hope you're all happy with how your seasons have gone so far, and that you're ready for the postseason, it's hard to believe it's already almost here!
