Holy cow!!! Rivers clocks 2:05.38 for 800m!!!

A week after her victory at state meet, Wilbur Cross star Gabriella Curtis copped 100m hurdles at Saturday's New England Championship.

Connecticut had several fine performances at Saturday's New England Championship, but the one that clearly stood out was turned in by Danae Rivers.

The Wilbur Cross junior broke the meet record and raced to a nation No. 5 in the 800-meter run with a personal best of 2 minutes, 5.86 seconds. Rivers broke the two-year-old mark of 2:06.42 by Hannah Parker of Coe Brown Academy in New Hampshire. Parker finished second in Saturday's race in 2:06.92.

Weaver sophomore and recent state champion, Mark Doyley, matched a stadium record by taking 200m dash in 21.16, a time that ranks No. 16 nationally.

Windsor claimed both 4x100m relays with the girls timed in 47.86 and the boys combining for a time of 42.21. Tolland was a winner in the girls' 4x800m with a time of 9:06.75 and Danbury claimed the boys' title in 7:47.99.

Staples junior Hannah DeBalsi defended her crown in the 3,200m with a solid 10:35.03 clocking. Gabriella Curtis of Wilbur Cross cruised to winning time and PB of 14.56 in the 100m hurdles.

The Nutmeg State also had victories from Farmington's Dan Hardiman in the discus (177 feet, 3 inches) and Windham's Joe Fogarasi in the pole vault (15-9).

The meet was held at Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine.
