No. 4 Freshman Alex Hart breaks 400m state record 56.87 leads her team to Class A title

Freshman Alex Hart's first Class A State Championship meet was one to remember. Hart started her day off with the fastest 100m qualifying time of 12.70, she would return in the final to run 13.00 to finish as the runner-up.

Finishing as the runner-up lit a fire in Hart and she stepped her effort in the 400m. It was a close race as Bonny Eagle's Elisabeth Redwood was pushing the pace and even took the lead as they turned for home. Hart didn't panic and stayed relax, running through the tape to take the state title. The clock flashed up her time 56.87 and the crowd knew that was a special effort. The mark better the Class A state meet record & also was a new all-time Maine best. The win also added 10 important points to Thornton Academy's team total.

Next up for Alex was the 200m, where she once again put the pedal to the metal, blowing the field away over the last 50 meters as she was the only one in the field under 26 seconds with her 25.95 effort.

Two individual state title, plus a runner-up in the 100m and a fourth place 15-10 effort in the long jump, good enough for 32 points. The 32 points helped the Trojans win the Class A title for the second year in a row. If Hart was her own team she would have finished in a tie for 7th.
