EL Girls win first indoor state title

The Edward Little Girls and Bonny Eagle Scots entered the 4x200m knotted at 42 points a piece, with Falmouth in third with 38. Falmouth set the standard in the 4x200m with a 1:51.75, and where the leaders in the clubhouse. Edward Little & Bonny Eagle went head to head in the final section with the Red Eddies executing strong handoffs, and running 1:48.60 to put a stamp on the school's first ever indoor state title. The Scots ran the #2 time which gave them runner-up plaque. Freshman Nyagoa Bayak of Westbrook set the only meet record when she cleared 5-7 in the high jump.

The Falmouth girls won the opening event of the track with a state leading 9:58.84 as Malakia Pasch brought the team to the front on the anchor leg. Scarborough put in a solid effort as they clocked state #2 time of 10:01.79. Kialeigh Marston brought the Scots of Bonny Eagle to a third place finish as they clocked 10:11.98.

Noble's Nina Tasker just a sophomore dominated the 55m hurdles as she clocked a state leading and personal best 8.66 to win the race. Edward Little senior Katie Ferrara took second place with her 8.90, while Melissa Kessel of Camden Hills was next in 8.93

Samantha Curran of Thornton Academy repeated as the shot put champion as she won the competition on her first throw with a heave of 38-8 1/2. Daija Misler of Hampden Academy was the runner-up with a best throw of 37-2 1/4, while Morgan Knowlton of Edward Little was 3rd throwing 36-11.

Maddy Price of Skowhegan had her best race in the finals, and she was rewarded with the state title as she clocked 7.40. It was close as Edward Little's Anna Beaudet was second in 7.41, with Adela Kalilwa of Lewiston earning third 7.60.

Wow what a race this was in the 400m as State all-time best record holder Elisabeth Redwood of Bonny Eagle battled with Cheverus junior Emily Turner. Redwood led through the break and continued to lead until the final straightaway when Turner got on her shoulder and was able to edge away in the final strides. Turner's winning effort was 58.47, with Redwood running 58.74. Turner's teammate Sarah Mount was a surprise 3rd place finisher as the winner of section 3, Mount ran a lifetime best 61.32.

South Portland's Juliana Selser used her kicked to win the 800m race, as she crossed the line in 2:20.34. Freshman Malaika Pasch was the runner-up with a 2:23.04 effort, with defending champion Tiffany Tanner of Brunswick finishing 3rd in 2:24.10.


Gorham sophomore Anna Slager ran away with the mile title as she finished in 5:19.23, almost 10 seconds in front of freshman Ami Beaumier of Bonny Eagle who ran 5:29.14, who scored 8 important points for the Scots. Lawrence junior Jaden Gray earned third place with a personal best 5:34.50.

Elisabeth Redwood wouldn't be denied as the she sprinted her way to the 200m title, stopping the clock at 26.32. Emily Turner of Cheverus crossed the line second in 26.64 while Anna Beaudet set a personal best 26.79 to place third.

Anna Slager made it 2 state titles on the day as she took the 2 mile with a kick over the last 400m. Slager's winning effort was 11:27.70. Scarborough sophomore Bethany Sholl had a strong day as she dropped her personal best over 20 seconds with a runner-up finish of 11:29.55.


Rihan Smallwood of Bangor vaulter higher than the rest with her 10-4 winning leap. That mark was a new state leader. Kiersten Hilton of Westbrook was the runner-up jumping 9-6, while Lauren Berube a sophomore from Edward Little was third also jumping 9-6.


Nyagoa Bayak of Westbrook lived up to the pre-meet hype as the freshman set a new state meet record clearing 5-7 in the high jump. Defending champion Moriah Biener cleared 5-4 for second while Alexis Wintle jumped 5-2 to earn third.

Maddy Price of Skowhegan dominated the triple jump as each of her jumps would have won the competition, in the end her best effort was a 35-6 3/4 effort. Falmouth's Lydia Farmer was the runner-up with a 34-0 3/4 effort on her 5th jump. Windham's Alexis Wintle took third with a 33-9 3/4 leap.

Hampden Academy's Krystal Grant surprised the field with a 17-1 1/2 leap to win the state title, Grant entered the competition as the 5th seed with a best of 16-2 1/4 seasonal best. Lydia Farmer of Falmouth also had her best jump of the season 16-11 3/4 on her first jump which earned her a runner-up finish. Adela Kalilwa the top seed was hampered by a knee injury that happened on Thursday before the state meet, she still managed a third place effort of 16-10 1/4.


The Edward Little girls 4x200m came through in a big way as they sealed the school's first ever indoor state title with a win in the final event, the Red Eddies did it in impressive fashion as well, 1:48.60. Bonny Eagle put in a valiant effort to place second in 1:51.63, with Falmouth winning heat 4 to place 3rd in 1:51.75
