Winthrop's Jacob Hickey doesn't usually wear a watch when he's racing but he just might start doing it all the time now.

The senior decided to wear a watch at Saturday's MVC XC Championship meet held at the University of Maine at Augusta course because he thought he would be running alone.

"I ran with a watch, so I could keep track of my splits." Hickey said after the race  "It worked pretty well."

Hickey looked like a fine tuned metronome as he glided over the trails en route to a 1:46 victory. Hickey's winning time was 16:35.5, the 4th fastest time in meet history.

Hickey's strategy was to get out hard, "It was good, I went out hard, 5 minutes for the first mile, then focused on running the downhills."

Junior Kyle Ames & sophomore Blake Erhard of Boothbay out together solid runs as Ames finished strong to finish second in 18:21.1, wile Erhard was ten seconds back in third.

Brandon Goud of Wiscasset ran to a fourth place effort with his 18:42.6 effort, he was follwed by freshman Will Perkins of Boothbay (18:59.5).

Boothbay who finished second at the MVC Preview a month ago on the same course, showed they put in the work over the last month as they dominated the rest of competition. With three runners in the top 5 and 5 in the top 13 they tallied 28 points.

Carrabec who won the MVC Preview a month ago finished second with 61 as they held off third place Lisbon who had 71,
