Tardy & Marrero capture individual titles, while MDI Girls & Caribou win team titles

MDI senior Tia Tardy tuned up for the Regional Championship with a record breaking performance on Saturday at the PVC XC Championship as she captured the Class B title with a 18:58.80 effort on the Old Town course.
Tardy who who the Sectional XC title three weeks ago on the same course improved her best time on the course from 19:03.40 down another 5 seconds to 18:58.80.
Her winning effort was 1:31 better than Class B runner Amanda Boyd of John Bapst, and 35 second faster than Class C champion Kassidy Dill of Orono.
Old Town's Audree O'Meara set a new personal of 20:38 as she ran to a third place finish, while freshman Trinity Montigny finished 4th in a strong 21 minutes effort, her time was 46 faster than she ran on same course at the Sectional meet.
Rounding out the top was Sara Hunt of John Bapst, she ran a 21:07.
In the team scoring MDI behind the victory from Tardy cruised to a 28 point win over Caribou. The Trojans tallied 46 points as they had all 5 scorers in the top 14 places. Ellsworth with 86 points finished third.

Caribou sophomore Dylan Marrero ran to his first big championship victory as he captured the PVC Class B Championship held at Old Town High School last Saturday.
Marrero crossed the finish line first with a 17:55.90 effort, his time was the only one in the Class B field under 18 minutes. Entering the championship he had the third fastest 5k in the field.
Marrero was followed by his teammate Evan Desmond 5 second laster as the junior stopped the clock at 18:00.10. Desmond edged out Ellsworth junior Matthew Frost by .2 seconds.
It was another Viking in fourth place as junior Alec Cyr ran 1807.50, he was followed by freshman Matthew Shea of Ellsworth in 18:08.8.
Caribou with 3 of the top 4 finishers, and 4 in the top 10 dominated the team competition as expected with 29 points. John Bapst edged Ellsworth by 2 points 82-84 for the runner-up finish.
