Class A Boys State Meet 5 Events to Watch

Class A Boys State Meet 5 Events to Watch

We take a look at the 5 events to watch at the Class A State Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Pole Vault

It has been an amazing year in the pole vault this season in Maine. For the first time ever there are four vaulters who have jumped over 14ft. Leading the way is defending state champion Sam Rusak who enters the state meet with a best of 15-10, the jump makes him the second best performer in state indoor history. Rusak will have his eyes on a repeat and hopefully have a crack at David Slovenski's 9 year old state meet record of 16-2 1/2.

It won't be a walk in the park though as sophomore Travis Snyder of Thornton Academy has jumped very well this winter. Snyder entered the season with an indoor best of 12-6 from his freshman year, and has consistently been over 14ft in his last three meets. His 15ft leap broke Rusak's state sophomore best. Snyder is only the fourth vaulter in Maine indoor history above 15ft.

Johann Bradley of Hampden Academy has been tearing up the EMITL this winter. Bradley has twice broken the league record, and his 14-6 1/4 jump won the EMITL Championship last week. Bradley's jumped moved him up to the 7th best performer in state history.

Scarborough senior Alex Dionne has a best of 14ft this winter, his jump is tied for the 11th best in state history. He's had the unfortunate luck of having two of the all-time best in his own league where he was SMAA honorable mention in the event.

With the quality field, the bar will be raised high, and this will be one event you don't want to miss.
