BAA 5K: True Breaks American Road 5k Record
Three time BAA 5k champion Ben True came into the race today looking to lower his own American 5k road record of 13:22 set two years ago in the same race. The 31 year old Saucony sponsored True didn't disappoint as he followed the fast pace set by Dejen Gebremeskel in the early stages, before making the decisive move with 600m to go to secure his fourth victory in the event, and breaking his own record by 2 seconds in the process with a 13:20.
This was the fourth BAA 5k victory for True, who won in 2011-2012, along with his previous record win in 2015.
