Big Marks & Fast Times to open the season


Mattanawcook sophomore Cayden Spencer-Thompson opened his season at the PVC meet at Brewer on Thursday. Despite the raw conditions Spencer-Thompson opened with three state leaders in the long jump, triple jump & high jump.

Spencer-Thompson who played basketball indoors, then competed unattached in several USATF meets in the triple jump before going on to compete at the New Balance Indoor National meet in March.

Spencer-Thompson commented on his performances, "It was a huge surprise based on the weather and since it was the first meet."

He recorded a best of 46-3, the second best jump in Maine indoor history. Spencer-Thompson opened with an all-time personal best 46-4 on Thursday in the triple, that mark moves him to the third best performer in state outdoor history.

"I would like to reach 47+ and get the Maine all-time best in the triple this season." Thompson said.

In the high jump he entered with a personal best of 6-0, but quickly erased that with a fine 6-5 clearance to win the event.

"My goal in the high jump this season was 6-4, so I think anything is possible now."

He also competed in the long jump where he popped off a jump of 21-3 improving on his personal best of 20-9 from a year ago.


Trinity Elite Distance Meet

In his first outdoor meet of his career Bonny Eagle senior Ben Steeves finished third in the 800m run clocking 1:56.59, a new all-time personal best. Steeves ran just about even splits as he clocked 58.24 for the first 400m and 58.35 for his second lap.



In the girls mile Falmouth's Malaika Pasch, the Class A indoor mile champion finished as the runner-up in a outdoor personal best of 5:15.32. Pasch opened the race in 76.93 and after a couple slower laps in the middle, she was able to close in out in 76.35 her fastest lap of the race. Also competing in the race was Bonny Eagle sophomore Ami Beaumier who clocked a 5:27.46 to place 7th.



In the boys mile Jeremiah Sands of Falmouth finished 5th with a time of 4:33.49.



Bonny Eagle sophomore Kayla Raymond had a strong run in the 800m as she finished 4th overall in 2:22.02. Raymond clocked splits of 70.97 for the first 400m & 71.05 for the second lap.
