Luke Laverdiere & Sofia Matson are the top Maine High School Runners in B2B
Defending Class B cross-country champion Luke Laverdiere dominated the Maine high school runners in the 20th Beach to Beacon 10k as the rising senior clocked 32:30 to finish in 33rd overall. His 5:14 mile average was 30 seconds a mile faster than Sam Mills of Biddeford who was the second fastest Maine HS runner at 35:33. The time improved upon Laverdiere's 2016 effort of 36:38. Expect a big fall of out Luke as he looks to repeat as Class B champion & make a run at a New England title.
The aforementioned Mills had a great run clocking 35:33, a good indication he's ready for a breakthrough in his junior campaign. A year ago he was 53rd in the Class A XC Championship running 17:44.80.
Beach to Beacon High School mile champion Sam Russ had a strong double as he ran 35:34 to finish 105th overall. Russ who had an off day at the Class B XC Championship a year ago finishing 79th is poised to have an excellent junior season. A year ago he clocked 37:10 in the B2B.
Falmouth's Connor Piers showed he's ready to challenge for one of the top spots in Class A this fall as the rising senior clocked 35:42, an improvement of 1:41 over a year ago. Piers placed 12th in the Class A State meet in 2016.
Running the same time was Scarborough sophomore Connor Coffin, who broke 10 minutes outdoor in the 3200 as a freshman in the spring. He'll be looking to improve on his 15th place effort at the Class A State meet a year ago.

Incoming freshman Sofie Matson from Falmouth impressed as she was the top Maine high school runner in the field by over a minute. Matson is expected to be one of the top runners in Class A this fall, and should contend for a state title given her 39:09 effort at Beacon to Beacon, which is back to back 19:34.5 5k's.
Another incoming freshman Lila Gaudrault of Cape Elizabeth showed excellent form as she ran 40:29 good for a 6:31 mile average over the 6.2 mile distance. She ran a 42:49 as an 8th grader a year ago.
Greely's Carolyn Todd improved on her 42:17 time from a year ago as she finished in 41:28. Todd finished 4th in the Class B state meet and 13th in the New England meet in 2016. She'll be competing in Class A this fall for the Rangers.
Another incoming freshman Karley Piers of Falmouth had a strong run of 42:31 to finish as the fourth Maine High School runner. Piers is expected to make an immediate impact for the Yachtsmen this fall.
Maine Coast Waldorf rising senior Olivia Skillings put in a solid effort of 43:22 to round out the top 5. Skillings finished 4th in the Class C State meet in 2016.
