Freshman Lila Gaudrault of Cape Elizabeth showed she will be one to watch in Class B this fall as she dominated the field at the Paul Brogan Invitational. Gaudrault covered the 2.7 mile course in 17:43 to win by 58 seconds. Her time broke the meet record for the course which was first run in 2015.
Cape Elizabeth girls had the first six runners across the finish line as they tallied a perfect score over host South Portland and Portland.
The boys' race was close early on as Joe Harrington of Portland set the pace for the first half of the race, he was trailed closely by Cape Elizabeth sophomore Jack Bassett. Bassett made a decisive move halfway through the race, and pulled away for the victory. Bassett's winning time was 15:27, 21 seconds ahead of the runner-up Harrington. A year ago Bassett won the JV race clocking a course record 10:03.
Cape Elizabeth was victorious as they had 5 of the first eight finishers to tally 25 points. Portland was next with 44 while host South Portland placed third with 60 points. Cape Elizabeth had a strong team performance a year ago they averaged 17:05 for the top 5, while today they averaged 16:22/
