In her own words: Anneka Murrin - Injuries Are Slight Hindrances

Hey all,

It's been a minute. How is everyone's school year going? Mine has been a bit hectic, but I finally mastered the art of time management-which allowed me to return to the barren land of my blog. Now let's address the elephant in the room. I made a mistake in my last blog: "I would to get more praise at my finish". Trust me, it required much mental healing to recover from that hard L. But alas, we all learn from our mistakes, and I can assure you that I will be proofreading my college essay twenty times over.

I figured that I would recount my races this fall beginning with three Saturdays ago at Belfast. I would like to congratulate everyone on their outstanding performances! It appears all runners had a great race. Having been in this sport for a while now, I constantly notice the ongoing debate of whether running is an individual or team sport. Unfortunately, I'll admit that I was once guilty of becoming obsessed with racing for the individual. At Belfast I was pleasantly reassured that XC is a communal effort. Even though I didn't have the best race that afternoon, I was able to run for points against strong athletes. It felt great to contribute to the team's success even if I was not in my normal position, and I have developed much respect for all the athletes out there racing tactically for points; you run and think-which is incredibly difficult to juggle.

The following week, my team was at Pineland and it was exciting to feel the hype of the race as a spectator. Conferences occurred this past Friday. Congrats to all the athletes and thank you to Saint Joseph's College for hosting it; you always put up a great venue. Greta Elder, my fellow captain, was my running partner this WMC as I am nursing an injury from Belfast. It was fantastic to help her accomplish a goal we had set for the meet. To quickly address injuries, please never become discouraged. These are just slight hindrances that will pass as long as you keep yourself healthy and mind focused on your goal. We, as runners, are very familiar with small discomforts, but we also understand that, just like our training, a little time and effort brings great outcomes.

I hope that everyone is ready for regionals and states-I know I am! Stay healthy physically and mentally, get ready to execute your weeks of training, and let's have a killer end to the season!
