Brewer Sweeps EMITL Indoor Track Titles

The Brewer girls won the EMITL for the first time since 2009, and they did it with their depth. Brewer only had one individual winner, and added a win in the 4x200, but the rest of their 91.50 came from those second through sixth places.

Freshman Morgan Honey was the lone individual winner for the Witches as she captured the 55m hurdles in a personal best time of 8.91, that mark ranks her #2 in Class B entering the state meet. In that race teammate Hannah Hopkins added 8 key points with her runner-up effort (9.24).

Honey helped the Witches 4x200m relay cross the line first as Brewer won the event in a time of 1:53.47.

Another freshman Olivia Mosca ran to a runner-up finish in the mile with her time of 5:34.71, teammate Hannah Smith followed in 5:35.14 for 14 total points in the event. Mosca would  later add a third place in the 2 mile.

The pole vault was a strong event for Brewer as scored 10 points with a third place from Kaitlyn Helfen (9-0) and a fourth from Madison Gibbs (8-6).

Hampden Academy distance runner Helen Shearer was the most outstanding performer as the sophomore won the mile (5:30.34) and the two mile (11:46.70), she added a third in the 800m for 26 individual points (2:29.99) to lead the Broncos to a runner-up finish

Senior Christie Woodside was a standout for Hampden as she won the high jump with a 5-2 clearance, then jumped a Class A leading 17-10 1/2 for second in the long jump, that mark ranks her 5th best in state history.

Orono's Camille Kohtala broke the EMITL long jump record as she went over 18 feet for the first time with her record breaking jump of 18-2 1/4. The mark is the third best in Maine indoor history. She showed her vast range as she won the 800m later on in the meet in a time of 2:26.28.

Mt Desert Island senior Ashley Anderson added a pair of wins as she won the 55m dash in a 7.39 which is the top time in Class B and #2 ranked in the state. Anderson set a state leading mark of 25.97 in her winning effort in the 200m.
