Spencer-Thompson Earns All-American Honors in Triple Jump On Day 3 At NBIN


Cayden Spencer-Thompson added to his outstanding weekend at the New Balance Indoor Nationals as the junior from Mattanawcook broke his own state record in the triple jump with his third round leap of 48-10 1/4. His mark was good enough to finish fourth overall to earn All-American honors in the event. 

Spencer-Thompson who plays basketball in the winter has broken the state record in the event three separate times this winter despite only jumping in four meets. His previous best came at the USATF New England Championship at Harvard where he jumped 48-9.

Cayden was just .01m behind third place, and had all of his jumps over 47-1 inches on the day. To put that into perspective coming into the season the Maine all-time best in the event was 47-0 3/4.

In the freshman boys mile Ben Greene of Falmouth lowered his personal best to 4:37.84 to finish 17th overall in the event. Greene ran in section 1 where he placed fifth entered the competition with a 4:40.32 best.

In the freshman 60m dash Victoria Bossong of Cheverus ran 8.16 to finish 31st out of 37 athletes.
