Salute to Seniors: Jarod Hooper (Massabesic HS)

Name: Jarrod Hooper

School: Massabesic High School

What was your most memorable race/meet?

My most memorable race would have to be the 800 at Southwesterns this outdoor season. I ran a PR, everyone pushed each other to a season best or a PR that day. The computation was unforgettable.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My biggest competition would be Mike Underwood, Dawson Desrosirers, and Will Rossignol.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment would be breaking the 4x800 school record with some of my best friends.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your xc/track&field career in high school?

I wouldn't change much, but I wish I started weight and resistance training earlier.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

My biggest obstacle I had to over come was getting Lyme disease the summer going into my Junior year. I wasn't able to run at all that summer, so when XC came along I had to start all over to regain everything I lost. This experience made me push harder and made me love running more.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss the people, through running you get to know a lot of great and amazing people.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

I would say never give up, keep pushing during workout and races because at the end it's worth the pain.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach (Bates) has a huge influence on my performance and my goals. Bates has taught me a lot about myself as a runner and a person. He pushes me to be the best runner and person I am. Without Bates this program wouldn't have grown this much in the last 3 years.

What are your college plans?

I will be attending Thomas college. I will be running XC, indoor and outdoor track.  I will be studying sports management

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to say thank you to my family, friends and my coaches for pushing me everyday.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

 Let's go disc golfing
