New Balance Nationals Day 3 Results, Updates


RESULTS

The final day of the New Balance Nationals on Sunday produced nearly a half dozen more All-Americans, including another national champion for the Bay State.

  • In only his second year of track & field, top seed Sam Welsh of Concord Academy did not disappoint in the discus, earning gold in his specialty with a winning toss of 203 feet, 11 inches. Welsh was the only athlete to exceed 200 feet in the competition. Finishing second was Bryan Hudson of South County (KY) with a distance of 198-1. 
  • Acton-Boxborough's Samantha Friborg cruised to a personal best in a competitive 800m race. Friborg improved on her fifth-place finish from the indoor nationals by taking fourth overall with a time of 2:06.13.
  • The mile run saw a national record by North Rockland (NY) sophomore Katelyn Tuohy, who clocked an amazing 4:33.87 in the scorching heat. In the battle for second, red-hot Grace Connolly of Natick secured that spot with an all-time best of 4:49.34.
  • Two relay squads made it to the podium on Sunday. The Shrewsbury boys placed fourth overall in the 800m Sprint Medley Relay with a state-leading time of 1:32.21. Milton grabbed the coveted sixth position in the girls' DMR with a time of 11:59.24.
  • Wellesley sophomore Abby Comella finished first in her heat and tenth overall in the 400m with a PR of 54.90.
  • Thayer Academy's Owen Drometer was tenth overall in the mile with a time of 4:19.71.
  • Fueled by a 4:09.14 mile anchor leg from Ryan Oosting, Arlington finished tenth in the boys' DMR with a time of 10:17.09.
  • Newton North's Theo Burba (see above) placed fourth overall in the Emerging Elite 800m. The Tiger junior crossed the line in 1:54.54.
  • Hingham's Zoe Dainton was 14th in the high jump, clearing 5-7.
  • Smith Charles of Milton came less than a half foot from earning All American in the long jump. Charles settled for ninth overall with a distance of 22-9.25.
  • Seekonk's Cameron Garabian had a heave of 43-1.75 in the shot, an effort that placed her 17th overall.
  • Hopkinton took ninth in the EE DMR with a final time of 12:25.13.
