NYA Boys | Merriconeag-Waldorf claim team titles | McClintock & Koch race to individual titles

It was a chilly day at Troy A. Howard Middle School for the Maine State Class C Boys Championship race. Slated to be one of the top races this year Class C did not disappoint with 5 boys under 17 minutes. The major hype coming into the race was the battle between Chase Brown (Boothbay) and Matt McClintock (Madison). The two had split their two previous championship races with Brown bringing home MVC gold and McClintock winning the Western Maine Regional. Off the gun several runners went off fast with Steven Morrill (Greenville) in the lead after 100 meters. McClintock passed Morrill shortly after that and was followed by Brown. Brown surged past McClintock just around the 3/4 mile mark and the two swapped spots several times with Brown winning the race to the mile going out in a fast 4:48 followed closely by McClintock in 4:49. McClintock regained the lead shortly after that and surged to a lead going up the long hill. From there McClintock spaced out his lead on Brown coming through the 2 mile in 10:11 with Brown about 10 seconds behind. Brown worked hard to try to reclose the gap but it was McClintock taking the state title with a time of 16:00.91 seconds. Brown followed with a 16:14.97. Rounding out the top ten were Josef Holt-Andrews of Telstar (16:33.04) Jack Pierce of Merriconeag (16:45.27) Alex Bulteel of Orono (16:57.29) Matt Guiod of Mattanawcook (17:04.52) Charlie Jones of North Haven (17:06.18) Cam Regan of NYA (17:11.94) Nate Schwem of Boothbay (17:12.62) and Abshir Horor of Waynflete (17:20.38).
