Hello again fellow Milespliters,

My training has been going well. I have been doing about 45 miles per week with some quality 800m and 1600m repeats in the mix. We have done a workout called the hammer a few times. You run 6 800s, 5 at goal race pace and the 2nd to last one as fast as you can. I hit 2:30-2:32s and a 2:22 on the hammer.  As for racing, my FOC race was not quite what I wanted. I was hoping for a nice PR and to move up on the list of fastest times. The Mount Blue Relays were fun as usual. I ran a 11:00 and a 11:36 in my two legs. My teammate Tom Brown and I accomplished our goal by winning through our legs. The team finished up 6th overall, which is not too shabby for a small school. The past races have been very muddy! Next week is the conference race where our Yellow Army (as a few Telstar guys named us) will hope to make it 4 in a row. As a long term team goal, we want to break Lisbon’s 5 in a row record. This next week will be tough, but if everyone shows up and runs their best I think we will have a decent shot. Telstar and Winthrop are also looking strong, it will most likely be a race decided by a few places. Winning every matchup and getting the 2 point swings will be very critical. Surges in my opinion are very underused and can help win important battles. If you don’t throw down a few surges per race think about adding them to your race day arsenal.
