Defending champion Silas Eastman of Fryeburg is back and looking to repeat as the state champion. Eastman was dominate last fall in his state meet win winning by a robust 18 seconds. Silas won the outdoor 3200m title running a personal best 9:26.36. Don't expect a repeat win to come easy to Eastman though as he will be challenged by Eastern Maine champion Dan Curts of Ellsworth. Curts ran Eastman to line in the outdoor 3200m, the margin of defeat for Curts was just .23 seconds. With that defeat no doubt stinging, Dan will be motivated to turn the tables this fall. The #3 returner is Greely's Nate Madeira who had a great fall in 2011 that led to a 5th place finish. The lanky Maderia had a strong outdoor season as well clocking 4:31.52 for 1600m & a 9:59 for 3200m. Cape's Peter Doane finished 8th last fall he's the 4th fastest returner this fall. Doane who only runs xc will be looking to follow in the footsteps of his uncle Jim, who was #2 in New England back in 1974. Rounding out the top 5 is Ron Lund of Caribou. Lund finished 10th last fall, he be looking to move up into the top group.
