Carl Paces USM at Paul Short Run

            BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Senior Molly Carl (York, Maine) placed 16th among 342 finishers to pace the University of Southern Maine women's cross country team to a 25th-place finish at the prestigious 39th Annual Paul Short Run held Friday at the Goodman Campus Course on the campus of Lehigh University.

            The Paul Short Run is one of the nation's largest cross country meets featuring more than 5,000 runners and over 400 teams.  USM competed in the College Women's Brown race.

            Carl covered the 6,000-meter course in a time of 22 minutes, 27 seconds to place 16th overall, and sixth among NCAA Division III runners.

 

 

Gazzelloni Leads Huskies to Fifth-Place Finish at Pop Crowell Invitational

   WENHAM, Mass. – Junior Julian Gazzelloni (Windham, Maine) was the first Division III runner across the finish line, coming home third overall, to lead the University of Southern Maine men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Pop Crowell Invitational held Saturday at Gordon College.

            Gazzelloni covered the race distance in a time of 26 minutes, 2.0 seconds to place third overall.  Antoine Gisore, running unattached, won the event with his time of 25:45.2.  Colton Ham of Franklin Pierce University was second in 26:00.2.

 

Bates

No. 32 women’s cross country takes third at Gordon meet

WENHAM, Mass. — The No. 32 nationally ranked Bates women’s cross country team rested top runners thus far this season, but still made an impressive showing at the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College, earning third place among 27 teams.

Among 317 runners in the race, Bates junior Andrea Fisher (Williamstown, Mass.) led the Bobcats in 12th place overall, at 19:09.4. First-year Addie Cullenberg (Farmington, Maine) was 14th in 19:16.6, followed by senior Merrill Brady (Concord, Mass.) in 21st at 19:35.0, sophomore Sarah Fusco (Cheshire, Conn.) 22nd in 19:38.2 and first-year Isabelle Unger (Charlotte, Vt.) in 31st at 19:49.1. Bates’ displacers were first-year Isabel Ferguson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) in 35th at 19:55.5, and senior Lisa Reedich (Harvard, Mass.) in 59th at 20:26.5.

 

No. 4 men’s cross country showcases depth at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. — The No. 4 nationally ranked Bates men’s cross country team showcased its depth on Saturday at the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College. With all of the team’s top finishers from past races this season sitting out this race, Bates still placed first among 25 teams. The Bobcats scored 61 points, nine ahead of runner-up Westfield State.

First-year Sam Reilly (Milton, Ga.) crossed the finish line first for Bates, placing sixth among 275 runners overall in a time of 26:34.1.

 

Colby College

Women's cross country captures own invite

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Husson University's Alecia Palmer was the first collegiate runner across the finish line and the Colby College women's cross country team won their own invitational by taking places four to 10 on Saturday.
 
Colby Nordic skier Olga Golovkina won the five-kilometer race in 20 minutes, 22.24 seconds, while Palmer was second overall in 20:33.23. Unity College's Courtney Dotterweich placed thid in 20:34.41 and Anna Doyle was the top Colby runner in 20:40.83.
 
The Mules won the event with a score of 20 and were followed by Husson (59), Maine-Farmington (81), Southern Maine (87), Maine Maritime Academy (155), and Thomas College (174). Unity and Maine-Augusta also competed, as did the Nordic skiers for Colby.

 

Men's cross country wins own invitational

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Tom Letourneau was the second overall finisher and first among collegiate runners in helping the host Mules win the Colby College Men's Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
 
Jeff Tucker of the Colby Nordic ski team won the five-mile race in 29 minutes, 39.86 seconds. Letourneau crossed first for the Mules in 29:52.22.
 
Colby finished with a winning score of 21 points and was followed by Maine Maritime Academy (66), Thomas College (77), Maine-Farmington (82), and Husson University (124). Unity College and University of Maine at Augusta also competed in the meet.

Mariners Fourth at Colby

 

Jessica Theberge (Starks, Maine) finished in 38th place among the 53 runners competing at Saturday's Colby Invitational. The Mariners' freshman paced Maine Maritime to a fourth place finish among the five competing teams.

In only her second week of collegiate cross country, Theberge posted a 26:26.48.  Unattached runner, Olga Golovkina won the race in 20:22.24, followed by Husson's Alecia Palmer at 20:33.23. Palmer led Husson to a second-place finish, while Colby, with seven runners in the top 10, won its own meet.

 

Mariners Second at Colby; Kataria and Roy Finish in Top 15

WATERVILLE, Maine – Running behind Vijay Kataria (Grassy Creek, N.C.) and Cameron Roy (Orrington, Maine), Maine Maritime Academy's cross country team picked up a second place finish in the five-team field at the Colby College Invitational on Saturday. The result marked the second time in three races that the Mariners have secured a second place finish.

Kataria ran the five-mile course in 31:30.91 for a 13th place finish in the field of 62. An individual entrant, Jeff Tucker, won the race in 29:39.86. Four consecutive Colby runners followed Tucker across the line, leading the charge to the championship at the Mules' event.

Women third, men fourth, at Colby Invitational

WATERVILLE, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington senior Salena Sykes (Island Pond, Vt./North Country Union) finished 13th overall to lead the women’s cross country team to a third place team finish  out of six teams at the Colby College Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Sykes posted a time of 21:51.36 on the 5000m course.

In the men’s 8000m event, junior Jackson Fortin (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) ran to a seventh place individual finish with a time of 30:21.43, as the UMF men’s cross country team finished fourth out of five teams.

Freshman Josh Wynne (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) finished right behind Fortin in eighth place with a time of 30:32.13. Junior Jamie Williams (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) finished further back in the pack in 30th place with a time of 33:11.32. Abdikadir Hassan (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) was 36th with a time of 34:27.08.
