Girls XC Top 25 Teams by year

All class state meets for a given year were combined, and then the teams were assigned a number based on how the finished in the combined state meet. 25 points for being the top team down to 1 point for 25th best team in any given year. Check out what programs have been successfully year after year. We have the last 5 years & last 10 years broken down for you.


The Capers of Cape Elizabeth have been the top girls xc team in the state since the year 2000. They are the only team that amassed over 300 points with their leading total of 302. During that time period they have been the top team in the state on two occasions (2007 & 2008) while they have been the second ranked squad three other times (2005, 2006 & 2009). They have been a top five team a total of seven times over the 16 year stretch. They are ranked 8th best over the last five years, and the second best over the last ten years.

York ranks second with 293 total points. The Wildcats haven't been the top team but have ranked second two times (2007 & 2016), while finishing in the top five six different times. York ranks 7th best squad over the last five years, and fourth best in the last decade

The Rangers of Greely sit in the third position just a single point back of York with 292 points. The Rangers held the top spot in 2016, and have been the second ranked program three others years (2000, 2001 & 2017).  No team has been better over the last five years as they have been 6th, 3rd, 5th, 1st & 2nd.

Mt Desert Island Trojans rank as the fourth best program since 2000. MDI has been the top team two times (2006 & 2013). They have been a top five teams on six different occasions. Over the last five years they are the 11th best squad while ranking 8th over the last ten years.

Rounding out the top five teams is the Dragons of Brunswick. They were ranked a program best third in 2006, and have been a top five team one other time, while accumulating seven top ten finishes since 2000. 

Over the last ten years the Mustangs of Massabesic have been the top girls program, during that time frame they were a top three program four times and a top five program six times.
