York Girls/ Falmouth Boys capture WMC Conference Titles May 31, 2009

The York Girls easily outdistanced the rest of the WMC, tallying 190 to defeat runner-up Greely by 62 points, setting them up to challenge the defending state champions, Waterville next weekend. On the Boys side it was the supreme depth of the Falmouth Yachtsmen as they scored 172 to defeat runner-up Sacopee Valley by 95 points. Individually York's Chelsey Tewell won 100 hurdles (15.3) & 100m (12.95), anran anchor on the fastest 4x100 team in the state (50.44). Also for York, Molly Carl took the 300m hurdles in a fine 46.8. Other double winers were Cape's Rachel Nichols in the 1600m (5:16.93) & 800m (2:24.04), Brittany Bell (Poland) in the 400m (59.10) & 200m (26.47), she also second in both the long jump & high jump. (Henry Sterling powers down the homstretch to capture the 3200m at WMC Chmpionship, also pictured is Greely's Logan Price who was 2nd- photo by Beth Rand) On the Boys side Falmouth was paced by double winner Tom Winger, long jump (21-9 1/2) & Triple Jump (42-3 1/2), also helping out the Yachtsmen were wins by pole vaulter Dalin Thomas (12-9), Kris Floridino shot put (48-10), Kellen McDonald 300m hurdles (42.42), Charlie Swerdlow racewalk (7:46.95), Alec Dunn 110m hurdles (16.33), 4x400 (3:34.9) Other double winners were Ben Miklovich 100m (11.25) & 200m (22.96) as well as anchoring the winning 4x100 (45.18).
