Silas Eastman 16:42|Abbey Leonardi 18:41 win SW Classic| Gorham Boys & Cheverus Girls top fields Sep 25, 2010

Silas Eastman (Fryeburg) dominated the boys field at the Southwest Classic, Eastman opened with a first mile of 5:10 to dispatch the field, through 2 miles in 10:38, Eastman cruised the final mile to clock 16:42 over the 5k course on a hot & muggy day. The medical people were busy all day dealing with athletes that pushed to hard on the day. Gorham behind Logan Marshall was the top boys team prevailed by one point over Greely. On the girls side Abbey Leonardi (Kennebunk) opened up in 5:41 with Emily Durgin (Cheverus) right behind in 5:46. The two would stay close through 2 miles, but that is were Leonardi took off putting close to 30 seconds on Durgin over the final 1.1. Leonardi would cruise it in to take first in 18:42, Durgin was 2nd in 19:26,teammate Fiona Hendry was 3rd. It looked like Cheverus took the girls team race with 3 of the first 5 finishers. Southwest Classic Meet Preview Sep 25, 2010

The first Southwest Classic XC meet will take place on Saturday 9/25 at Twinbrook Recreation Park in Cumberland. The meet will feature teams from the Southwestern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) & the Western Maine Conference (WMC). The meet will feature a varsity race and jv race for each gender.
