Hello!

This is the third day in a row that I’ve started writing this blog post, and the first time I’ve actually finished it. I haven’t posted since December, which is terrible of me, but January was a pretty tough month for me and I’m still getting my legs back under me. I’ve got quite a few anecdotes from this season that I want to put together and share, partially because I promised my teammates I would.

There are five days until states now, and I’m starting to get excited about it. Yesterday I had to make a couple difficult decisions. I’d been hoping that EMITLs would be a chance for me to drop my times a bit more in the 800 and 2 mile. I was hoping that I’d do better than I did, especially since I didn’t run the meet before last, because I’d been sick most of the week and I’d missed several practices.

Going into the EMITL meet, I wanted to concentrate on my 800, and have a really great race. I was running the 4x800 and two mile as well, but the two mile was basically to score our team a couple other points and the 4x800 was pretty low key. Going into the 4x800, my only goal was to stay in the same position that I was in when I got the baton. Looking back on it, it’s not surprising that we ended up further ahead than we’d expected, since our seed time was run when two of the girls on the team were sick, but I still wasn’t expecting to be in first at the last hand off. We finished first, which is even more impressive considering we have six girls on our entire indoor track team, and two of the girls on the team are primarily sprinters. I’m incredibly proud of our team.

The 800 didn’t go as well as I wanted it to, since I went out much too fast and lost my focus with two laps to go and I didn’t manage to regain it in time to pull out a fast last lap. I tied my PR, but since the time is from the beginning of January, I’d been hoping for something a little better.

Given both of these performances, I had to decide what I wanted to do at states. I was torn between trying to drop my times in my individual events and seeing what our 4x800 could run on a state level. It wasn’t an easy choice to make, especially since I didn’t get the opportunities that I wanted to have during cross country this year. I’m still not sure if I’ve made the right choice, but I’m going to stand by my decisions. I’m going to work hard and try to make my choices worth it, and that’s all any of us can do.

See you at states!
