Hall & Cox take Westbrook-Gorham Rotary Race

Scarborough's Robert Hall cruised to win in the Westbrook-Gorham Rotary 2.14 mile race this morning, Hall a senior clocked 10:50 to easily take the win. On the girls side Samantha Cox of Bonny Eagle pulled away from her teammate Kialeigh Marston to claim the girls title in 12:39. Scarbrough Boys & Bonny Eagle girl won the team titles.

 

The race was held in ideal racing temperatures this year 50's, a year ago temps crept into the 80's by race time. On the boys side Robert Hall of Scarborough controlled the pace for much of the race as he went through the mile in 5:03. Hall lengthened his lead over the final mile to cross the line first in 10:50.  Last year Hall struggled in the heat clocking a 11:33 but woke up knowing today's race would be much better.

Following Hall up front after the mile was a pack with Cam Nadeau of Biddeford, Yayha Hussein of Deering & Jacob Terry of Scarborough. Hussein & Terry remained togther until the final stretch where Terry used a strong kick to egde Hussein for the runner-up finish. Terry would finish up with a 11:10 with Hussein just 2 clicks back at 11:12. Terry a year ago a freshman ran 12:41, both athletes are just sophomores.

Rounding out the top 5 were freshman Colin Tardiff of Scarborough who kicked his way to a 4th place finish, he stopped the clock at 11:18, just one second in front of Cam Nadeau 11:19.

Scarborough boys won the team title for the 9th year in a row, this year the Red Storm had 4 in the top 7, good for a total of 14.

 

The girls race was dominated by Bonny Eagle. Samantha Cox & Kialeigh Marston ran side by side for a majority of the race before Cox pulled away for the victory. The senior clocked 12:39 for the 2.14 mile course finishing 17th overall, Marston was 9 seconds back with a fine 12:48. Marston was 20th overall. Next across the line was Lexie Vayda also of Bonny Eagle, Vayda's time was 13:20.

Rounding out the top 5 were Jackie Turner of Gorham 14:06, and Halee Phelps of Westbrook 14:12. Turner was 34th overall while Phelps was 35th

Bonny Eagle tallied just 12 points to cruise to the team title.
