Greely Girls & Falmouth Boys prevail in WMC D1 - Traip girls & Wells Boys in D2

Greely Girls & Falmouth Boys best in Divison 1, while Traip Academy Girls & Wells boys tops in D2.

Denzel Tomaszewski of Wells broke the Maine all-time best for the 100m with his 10.76. On the girls side Kate Hall shattered the Maine all-time for 100m, 11.68, and added another state all-time best in the 200m 24.96

The Greely girls claimed the WMC Divison 1 title with 151 to hold off a strong challenge from the York girls (131). On the boys side Falmouth previaled in a tight 3 team race, the Yacthsmen tallied 140, while the Rangers of Greely scored 133 for the second, while York with 127 was 3rd. In Division 2, Traip Academy took the girls title with 156 points. On the boys side Wells put up 174 to take the title. Kate Hall set 2 all-time Maine bests, 11.68 for the 100m & 24.96 in the 200m, while Denzel Tomaszewski added the state all-time of 10.76 in the 100m.

Girls Div 1 Recap

Lake Region sophomore Kate Hall had another championship meet for the record books. The top sprinter in Maine history added to her already growing legacy, smashed the Maine all-time in the 100m in the trials with a blistering 11.68. Hall who had run under 12 a couple of times via hand time, left no doubt about on Monday. The previous record was 12.12 run by Logan Crane in 2005, Hall's time was an amazing .44 faster.  Kate wasn't done as she led her 4x100 team to victory as they ran the state leading time 50.93. Hall continued breaking 25 seconds for the first time outdoors with a 24.96, taking down the 25.06 record also held by Logan Crane. She added another victory with a WMC record in the long 18-4, the mark is just off her best of 18-5.

 

Greely was paced by distance ace Kirstin Sandreuter who won the 1600m (5:25.39) & the 3200m (11:30.22). They also got two more wins from standout thrower Gwen Sawyer, who broke 40ft in the shot put for the first time, Sawyer's throw of 40-7 improved her state leader, she would also take the discus with a toss of 101-3. The Rangers also won the 4x800m relay (10:12.63), Hannah Keisman in the 300m hurdles (52.11)

 

Girls Division 2 Recap

Traip Academy was led by two wins from Elora McCuddy. McCuddy won the 400m (63.74) & 800m (2:36.86). They also got a pair of wins from Ashleigh Roberts in the 300m hurdles (53.64) & long jump (15-9). Other standut performances came from Kelsey Barnes in the pole vault (10-2) & Jocelyn Lorrey in the triple jump (35-8 3/4).

Other standouts were NYA's Hannah Austin won the 1600m (5:43.79) & 3200m (12:14.94). Freeport's Kelsey Grant was the only other double winner, Grant won the 100m hurdles (17.28) & the javelin (101-11)

 

Boys Divison 1 Recap

Falmouth showed championship form once again in a big meet as the Yachtsmen took the division 1 title. Leading the way was Jacob Buhelt who won the 100m dash in 11.22, he added the 200m win running 23.0. Buhelt also ran a leg on the winning 4x100m relay (45.14). The biggest surprise of the meet was freshman Tony St. Angelo clearing a personal best 6-2 for the win. Bryce Murdick added a win the 3200m (10:30.56) while Alex Gowen 12-6 won the vault with teammate Andrew Thornton 12-0 in second.

York's Tom Reid had a tremendous meet, winning the 110m hurdles in 15.30, & 300M hurdles 40.82.  He was also the runner-up in the long jump (20-2) & triple jump 41-8 1/2. His teammate Joe Vogel was also a double winner, Vogel won the 400m (51.47) & long jump 20-4 1/2

Other standout performances came from Will Shafer who ran 1:58.71.

 

Boys Divison 2 Recap

Senior standout sprinter Denzel Tomaszewski made his final WMC Championship meet a record breaking one. Tomaszewski started his day off with a league record 10.88 in the trials, he had plenty left in the tank as he blew away the field with a Maine all-time best of 10.76 for 100m, breaking the 10.86 run by former Edward Little star Colby Brooks. Denzel continued his day with a win in the 4x100 (44.93). He would run a personal best and Class B leading 22.56 in the 200m for his 3rd victory of the day.

Wells also got wins from Dante Fanning in the javelin (148-10), Kyler Parker in the long jump (19-11 1/2),

Traip's Antencio Martin had a strong meet winning the 110m hurdles 15.62, the high jump (6-0), & triple jump (44-1)

Other standout performances came from Jake Burns of NYA (41.01).
