Hello!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve actually written a blog post. I’d intended to continue blogging through the outdoor season, but between all the standardized testing and school work, running, and actually trying to sleep once in a while I didn’t have much time left to me. However, with summer comes a lot more time, both to run and to blog, so I’m getting back on track now (no pun intended).

So far, my running has been going quite well. After outdoor states, I took almost a month off, since my training this year has been more intense than previous years, and after not doing as well in the heat at states as I would have liked, I decided it was a good time to take a bit of a break. I finally got back to running again the first week of July, which was right around when it started getting quite hot, much to my chagrin. I don’t do well in the heat, almost without fail, so summer training is always a bit of a challenge for me. I’ve been trying to run early in the morning, to beat the heat, but even if I’m getting up at 5 or 6 in the morning, it’s still quite warm. My technique for making it through these runs is to get other people to run with me, since I’ve realized I’m less inclined to cut my runs short if I’ve got someone else with me. Plus, complaining about the heat is much more fun with a partner.

It’s crazy to me that we’re already almost 3 weeks into training, especially since my senior season sort of caught me by surprise. For the past couple months, there has been such a focus on making it to the end of school and the end of track season that I didn’t even consider what was coming up after they were both over. Personally, the thought of applying to college and being almost an adult is terrifying, but I find some solace in the fact that many of us are in the same boat, and we’ll figure out some way to get through it. Pack running, perhaps?

This next week, I’m off to my fifth year of Acadian Running Camp, which is a fantastic camp on MDI that runners from all over the state, and some even from outside the state as well. I’ve gone to ARC every year since its inception, and it is one of my favorite parts of the summer. Being able to meet and train with runners from all around the state as an amazing experience, and I’ve met some of my very close friends there. If you’re going to ARC and I don’t know you, you should absolutely come talk to me, because I love meeting new people.

Keep training and stay cool!
