MDI is the top returning team in the state in 2013, the Trojans have won the last 2 Class B titles
Two time defending Class B champion Mt Desert Island is the top returning team statewide, the Trojans have just 106 points based on the the 2012 5k times for all returners in 2013. Impressive numbers that is for sure compared to the rest of the state. Another stat that sticks out for MDI is the returning 1-5 5k average of 20:05, and a pack time of under a minute at 58.79. How deep is MDI? Their #6 runners is ranked #31 in the state.
Camden Hills who finished as the state runner-ups to MDI is Class B year ago, return as the #2 team statewide with 232. The Windjammers return a 1-5 team average of 20:43 for 5k, they have 3 runners who are projected to score in the top 35 led by Brittany Bowman. Camden finished ahead of MDI at the the Eastern Maine Championship & NE championship last fall.
Another Class B team, Greely, sits in 3rd place with 310 returning points. The Rangers have one of the strongest 1-2 runners in the state with the favorite for the individual title Kirsten Sandreuter, along with Eva Bates who is the #9 returner. It's been a while since Greely has been won the state title, 2001 to be exact, along the program is steeped in tradition with a record 11 Class B titles in school history. A year ago the Rangers finished 4th.
Bonny Eagle the defending Class A champions return as the #4 team in the state with 326. The Scots are one of the favorites in Class A in 2013, they have a strong 1-4 led by Mary Szatkowski who has the fastest returning 5k time in the state in 2013. If Bonny Eagle can find someone to fill the 5th spot they not only will be one of the favorites to win the Class A title, but one of the top teams in Maine again. Last fall the Scots finished 15th in the NE Championship meet the top finish for any Maine team.
Rounding out the top 5 returning teams is Class A Brunswick with 341 points. The Dragons had one of the youngest teams last fall as they finished 4th in the Class A State meet, they are back even stronger in 2013. If you removed all the seniors from last year's Class A meet Brunswick is the top returning team. Brunswick has a strong front running duo in Tessa Cassidy & Tiffany Tanner leading the way.
Massabesic who was the Class A runner-up in 2012, returns in the 6th spot with 371 points. The Mustangs will have to overcome some key losses to graduation but return a strong front runner in Gabby Johnson. Massabesic will be looking for a new addition to move up the ranks .
New to Class A Falmouth is the 7th best returning team with 375. The Yachtsmen who finished 5th a year ago in the Class B state meet, have a strong 1-3 with Madeline Roberts, Vishva Nalamalapu and Alta Farrell.
Class B Yarmouth is the 8th best returning team with 386. The Clippers finished 6th in the Class B State meet a year ago, they return a strong 1-2 in the Teare's sister, Caitlin & Ellie.
Freeport another WMC team is the #9 returning team with 394 points just a few behind Yarmouth. The Falcons return 4 runners with sub 22 minute clockings for 5k. They are led by Elly Bengtsson.
Coming in at the ten spot is Class A Mt Ararat with 400 points.. The Eagles were 7th in Class A in 2012, they will paced by front runner Kelly Lynch.
These pre-season rankings don't take into consideration any new incoming freshman or new to the program athletes. Also if an athlete is injured that isn't taken into consideration.
