Westbrook junior Halee Phelps won her first career xc race last Friday in a SMAA meet against Gorham & Deering. Phelps covered the wet 5k course in a personal best 21:2, not bad for her first 5k xc race of her career. With Halee leading the way the Westbrook girls team is having a resurgence this fall. Key an eye on Phelps as she makes a push to be one of the top runners in the SMAA this fall. Out of the 53 votes cast this week, phelps received 24 or 45.28%
Telstar senior Josef Holt-Andrews opened his 2013 season with an impressive 16:26 effort to win on his home course. Holt-Andrews is the heavy favorite to win the Class C title this fall, it would be his first individual xc title after finishing as the runner-up a year ago. Josef is considered one of the top harriers in NE, he finished 5th a year ago is and is the top returner this fall. Look for Holt-Andrews to make a run at a Footlocker national bid later this fall if he stays healthy. He received 16 of the 24 votes cast this week.
