Week #3 Girls
Girls 5k
Kirstin Sandreuter the #1 ranked girl in the state of Maine didn't race this week but no one is near her 18:46. Cheverus senior Kiera Murray has vaulted into the #2 ranking with her 19:32 clocking on her home course. NYA's Hannah Austin smoked her home course with a course record, 19:48 to move up to the 3rd fastest 5k in the state. TA's Abby Runnells broke 20 minutes for the first time as she clocked the #4 performance of 19:49 at TA's new course. MDI's Maggie Painter hold on to the the #5 performance with her win at the Presque Invitational held at Caribou HS last week.
Girls 3mi
Aleta Looker of Ellsworth lowered her season leading 3 mile time by 1:25 as she won at George Stevens Academy, clocking a personal best 18:10. York senior Heather Evans remains 2nd with a 19:40. Freshman Tia Hardy of Mattanawcook moved up to 3rd with her performance (19:52) at the Bucksport Invitational two weeks ago. Right behind her in 4th is Lily Koffman of Orono who ran 19:53 at Bucksport a step behind Tardy. Elizabeth Labun of Hampden Academy rounds out the top 5 with her 20:00.35
Boys 5k
12 of the top 15 changed this week as there was plenty of hot action around the state. Josef Holt Andrews of Telstar lowered his state leading time by over a 1 minute as he broke Matt McClintock's course record at Carrebec by 17 seconds with his 15:21. Ryan Cadorette of Thornton Academy blistered his first xc 5k on his home course as he went under 16 minutes with his 15:53 effort. Senior Ben Allen of Portland finished 2nd to Cadorette at TA but ran a lifetime best fo 16:25, good for 3rd fastest in the state. At NYA's Royal River Park, Cape Elizabeth's Liam Simpson lowered his fastest 5k down to 16:25.5, good for 4th overall. Windham's Nate Skvorak crushed his personal best with a 16:33 clocking at TA.
Boys 3mi
There where 4 new additions this week to the top 15 in the 3 mile, although the top 5 remains unchanged. Ellsworth's Dan Curts got off to a fast start in 2013 as he clocked a personal best 15:43 on his home course at the Ellsworth Invitational. Will Shafer (GNG) had a duel with Braden Becker (Yarmouth) at York as the two both ran under 16 minutes, with Shafer getting the win in 15:54, Becker was 4 seconds back at 15:58. Cape's Liam SImpson opened up with an easy win on his home course as he clocked a 28 second personal best. Bangor's Jonathan Stanhope also opened with a win on his home course, Stanhope clocked 16:08 to hold off a strong effort by Caleb Lord of Hampden Academy.
