Looking Ahead: Top State Meet Returners Class A

Girls

2013 Class A State champion Kialeigh Marston of Bonny Eagle is the top Class A returner next fall, Marston had a sensational first xc season capped by winning the state title. Marston also added wins at the Festival of champions & WM Regional to her resume this fall. Her personal best 18:42.94 is 23 seconds faster than the #2 returner Anne Guadalupi. Kialeigh not only will be a force in Class A but in the entire state next fall.

Guadalupi just a freshman showed she has what it takes to be one of the top runners in the state in her first year campaign. Anne was the freshman winner at FOC, KVAC runner-up, EM Regional champion & finished 10th in the state meet. One thing that Guadalupi established this fall was she's going go to the front and push the pace. She's the #2 time returner, 19:05.73 & 6th fastest state meet returner.

South Portland sophomore Casey Loring is the 3rd fastest time returner in 2014, her best time in 2013 was 19:15.80. The diminutive Loring finished 8th in the state meet this fall, and returns as the 4th fastest in Class A next fall. She was 5th in the WM Regional this fall.

Hampden Academy junior Elizabeth Labun clocked a personal best, 19:32.85 this fall. Labun is the 4th fastest time returner in 2014, additionally she finished 9th in the state meet this fall, and is the 5th fastest state meet returner. Elizabeth had a strong post-season run with a 4th in the KVAC Championship & 3rd in the EM Regional.

Brunswick's Tessa Cassidy round out the top 5 time returners in 2014. Cassidy clocked her best time of the year, 19:32 at FOC. She went on to finish 3rd in the KVAC Championship, 4th in the EM Regional & 13th in the state meet. Next fall Tessa will be the 8th fastest state meet retuner

Massabesic's Gabby Johnson was at her best at regional & state meets this fall. Johnson finished 5th in the state meet, running a fine 20:02. Her performance at the state meet means she is the #2 returner next fall.

Marshwood's Maddy Doyle was a relative unkown until the championship meets this fall, but made a name for herself. Doyle was 6th in the WM Regional, she matched that performance at the state meet, in the process lowering her personal besr to 20:02 on a day where most ran slower than they did at regionals. She finished her season of with a personal best 19:34 at the NE Championship where she finished 73rd, and was the 9th best Maine runner.

Massabesic & Falmouth are the top two returning teams, the Mustangs finished 2rd this fall & Falmouth 3rd. Massabesic has been the bridesmaid the last 2 years, and will be in search of the first girls xc title in school history next fall. They will be lead by Gabby Johnson who is the #2 individual returner, plus 4 others who competed at the state meet this fall.

Falmouth who finished 3rd this fall their first season in Class A, they will have 6 runners back from that team. Vishva Nalamalapu is the top returner for the Yachtsmen, she finished 16th in the state meet this fall.

Brunswick is another team to keep an eye on with the talented Tessa Cassidy & Tiffany Tanner leading the way for the Dragons. Brunswick finished 4th in the state meet this fall.

It's been a long time since the Marshwood girls xc team has been talked about as a top team, but next fall watch out for them as they return 6 runners from a team that finished 7th this fall.
