Hello all! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year! This vacation was an amazing chance to catch up with friends and family, to take a break from school work, and get in some long chilly runs! I know that down here on the southern coast of Maine our weather isn’t as drastic as it is further up north, but we still got our fair share of freezing temperatures and snow!

On the last day of school before break started, we had a duel meet (just York and Traip) at UNH! Our team is–not positive so don’t quote me on this–the largest Indoor team our school has ever had. It is currently hovering around 115 athletes! Even though it was the Friday before vacation, we had a pretty good showing! I ran a 5:40 in the mile and a 2:40 in the 800, coming out victorious in both. The 160m track definitely messed with me a little, I prefer the 200m track for sure, but I was still happy with my times. Now my goal is just to improve each week!

!One morning last week we got a bit of snow, I assumed it was enough to put a soft layer of snow on top of the ice that is currently covering all the beautiful trails in the water district behind my house, but I was wrong. My dad, my dog Frankie and I hit the trails once the snow stopped falling, and my butt literally hit the trails a few times. It quickly turned into a fast paced walk instead of the moderate run we had planned. Though it wasn’t very successful, it was an adventure! In my attempt to put a positive spin on the situation, I decided that it was worth it, because though I came close to rolling my ankles upwards of a dozen times, I think all the slipping and sliding helped to strengthen the little muscles in my lower legs. Either way, it was nice to get out early and get some fresh air. Despite the weather I did have many awesome workouts as well, including my 13.5 mile run to the top of Mt. Agamenticus! The day I did this was one of the few warmer days, my earbuds didn’t fall out of my ears once, and I didn’t cramp up from carrying water! So basically it was a perfect run. The view from the top of Mt. A wasn’t bad either!

We were supposed to have a meet at USM last friday, but it was rescheduled for Monday, then cancelled last minute due to the weather...So instead, I went home and went for a long run. Getting my mind to switch from ‘race mode’ into ‘long cold run mode’ was difficult, but of course necessary.

In other news... Those of you who are Facebook friends with me may have seen that I have been accepted into the nursing program at St. Anselm College! This is my number one school and if all goes as planned, you will find me running cross country there next fall! If you have never heard of the school, it is a D2 college located in Manchester, NH, a short 10 minute drive from Derryfield, NH, (which is where the Manchester Invitational and New England meets are held in cross country!)

I hope everyone’s first couple of meets are going well, and I hope all my fellow seniors are getting good news from the schools they applied to! Can’t wait for my first real meet this Friday! Until then... run happy!
