Falmouth Sweeps the WMC titles

Kate Hall break the league record in the long jump with a 19-8 1/2 leap. Will Shafer breaks his own Mile record, 4:18.22

Heading into the meet based on the seeds the girls meet was an expected 3 team battle between Greely, Falmouth & York. in the end Falmouth used it's strong junior division sprinter and overall depth to overwhelm the rest as they scored 137 points. York was the runner-up with 107, while greely was 3rd with 91.33. This was the first time according to Coach Jorma Kurry that Falmouth has won the girls league title.

Leading the way for Falmouth was junior division sprinter Emma England who won the jr 200m in a personal best 27.92, she added a second place finish in the jr 55m, plus ran a key leg on the winning jr girls 4x200m relay that ran 1:52.42, just misses the league record of 1:52.38. On the senior division side it was Charlotte Cutshall providing key points for the Yachtsmen. Cutshall was second in the sr 55m running a personal best 7.63, she added another 8 points in the long jump with a seasonal best 16-7 1/2 mark before finishing third in the sr 200m, and then providing a strong leg on the second place sr 4x200m relay.

Greely's Kirstin Sandreuter had an outstanding meet as the senior dominated the distance races. Sandreuter won the mile in 5:11.93, then added the win in the two mile 11:20.09, she also ran a very strong leg on the 4th place 4x800m team.

Standout sprinter/jumper Kate Hall was coming off 15 days of illness that limited her training. Hall didn't let the downtime effect her long jump as she broke her own league record with a leap of 19-8 1/4. She easily dusted the field in the sr 55m, running 7.08 in the trials and then 7.18 in the finals. In the sr 200m she once again dominated, crossing the line in 25.68. She finished her night with an amazing anchor leg in the 4x200 that brough her team to the win in section 1, which was good for 5th overall.

Yarmouth's Emma Egan was a double winner as the sophomore took the jr 55m in 7.71, she also won the junior high jump with a 5-0 clearance. Egan also set a season best of 15-11 to finish fourth in the long jump

Greely's Alysaa Casarez took first in the junior shot with a toss of 36-7 1/2, she has the best throw in the state this year. Showing her versatility she also took first place in the pole vault, 8-6.

Falmouth & York ebtered the meet as the two teams expected to battle for the conference title, that was certainly the case as in the end 4.5 points separated the two teams. Falmouth emerged victorious as they tallied 130 points to York's 125.5. Cape Elizabeth with 65 was the third best team

Falmouth was led by it's young sprinting core, strong jumps and some excellent relays. Noah Brown was the jr 200m champion running a personal best 24.54, as he edged his teammate Nigel Dunn 24.61. Martin was also the runner-up in the jr 55m, and ran a the leadoff leg on the winning jr boys 4x200m relay. Spencer Brown took over the 800m race at the halfway mark before easily pulling away for the win, his winning time was 2:05.89. Sophmore Tony St. Angelo added 18 important points with a win in the jr high jump (5-10) and a runner-up finish in the long jump.

Gray New Glocuester's Will Shafer had a record breaking performane in the mile as he lowered his own league record to 4:18.22 for the win, Shafer was in full control of the race from start to finish as he covered the first half of the race in 2:08. Will came back to again dominate the field in the two mile as he set a personal best, 9:41.13.

NYA's Michael McIntosh had an excellent day in the sprints winning both the Sr 55m, & Sr 200m. His 6.68 in the trials and finals is the fastest time in the state this year. His winning time of 23.32 in the 200m lowered his own Class B leading time. He'll be the one to beat in the state meet next Monday at Bates.

Sacopee Valley's Ryan Moulton was the top jumper in the meet, he won the long jump with a Class B leading 21-0 effort, then added a season best 40-11 in the triple jump for the win.

Yarmouth's Darren Shi had a big personal best in the senior shot put as he hit 48-1, his previous best throw was a 45-6 effort this season.
