Lake Region's Kate Hall once again stepped it up to another level at the National level, as the junior jumped a Maine all-time best 19-11.5 to finish as the national runner-up. Hall set the new personal best on her final jump in the finals. She qualified for the final with a best effort of 5.93m (19-4 1/2) on her final jump of the qualfying rounds, that effort put her in second place. This was Kate's first indoor All-American performance in her storied career.

It was a busy day for Hall who ran in the 60m trials at 9am Saturday morning. Kate was in section 2 and finished 4th in a time of 7.67 which ended up 15th fastest time overall and advanced her to the semifinals Sunday morning. The 7.67 effort broke the Maine all-time best of 7.76 set in 2004 by Logan Crane (Freeport). Watch the record breaking race

NCAA D1 Nationals

Dartmouth's Will Geoghegan made the most of his first NCAA indoor track national final, as the senior earned All-American status with his 5th place effort of 4:04.17. Geoghegan ran in 7th place in the first half of the race, before moving up one spot to 6th at the 1k. Will hit the last lap in 3:35, and had moved in the 5th spot where he would finish. Given the NCAA 5.5 second altitude conversion his converted time is 3:58.67.

NCAA D3 Nationals

Ruginski & Horowitz capture NCAA titles

USM's Jamie Ruginski entered the national meet as the top seed in the triple jump, and the junior lived up to those expectations with a winning effort of 50-1 3/4. On his second jump of the qualifying round Jamie leaped out to 48-7 3/4 a mark that sealed the championship for him. On his final jump of the prelims he increased his lead to 49-1 3/4. With the meet already won Ruginski extended his lead with his best effort of 50-1 3/4 For Ruginski it was his second All-American award of the weekend after placing 3rd in the long jump on Friday. This was the first ever National Champion for the University of Southern Maine. Behind the 16 points from Ruginski, USM finished a program best 11th, they were the top Maine college edging Bowdoin who placed 12th with 14 points, & Bates in 15th with 12 points.

Bowdoin College senior Coby Horowitz took the pace out hard in the mile final, and ran away from the field en route to an easy 4:08.40. Keene State's Ryan Widzgowski was the national runner-up, the former Camden Hills HS standout ran 4:10.18. Maine native and current Fitchburg State senior Chris Kibler also earned All-American honors via his 6th place 4:10.64 finish. 2th-9th place was seperated by just .71 seconds in a blanket finish. The 800m saw Mitchell Black of Tufts sets the pace through 600m. Black would hold on to finish 3rd in 1:52.17 to earn All-American honors. Bowdoin's Jacob Ellis was 5th in 1:52.53, while Keene's State Ryan Widzgowski doubled back from the mile to finish 6th in 1:53.36, earning his second All-American honors of the day. An impressive feat at the national considering Ryan had to run trials of the mile & 800m yesterday, then come back today to finish 2nd in the mile before the 800,.
