Looking Back: 2013-14 Top Freshman Boys Indoor Track

The Class of 2017 saw two athletes score in individual events at the state meet in 2013-14 season. Sprinter Xander Bartone qualified for states in the 55m, 200m, & 400m, he would place 3rd in the Class B state meet in the 55m. While Scarborough's Sam Rusak was a statte meet scorer in both the Class high jump & pole vault. Rusak jumped 12-6 to place 3rd in the vault at the Class A state meet while earning a 7th in the hugh jump. He was the freshman leader in the 55m hurdles, long jump, high jump & pole vault.

NYA's Xander Bartone of NYA peaked at the right time as he went from from 6.95 to 6.92 in the 55m trials at the Class B state meet then had a huge personal best 6.81 in the final to finish a suprising 3rd.

Edward Little's Tyler Blanchard had the the top 200m time 24.63, and also qualified for states in the 55m where he ran a 6.97 in the trials. He was also a member of Edward Little's third place 4x200m relay team

Bartone showed good range, as he was the only freshman to meet the state qualifying time for 4oom, running a best of 55.70

Ben Steeves of Bonny Eagle was the only freshman to meet the state qualifyng time in the 800m, Steeves finished 2nd in the SMAA  Southwesterns jr 800m and was 11th place in the state meet.

Mile

Caleb Love-Webb of Camden Hills was the only freshman to run the state qualifying time in the mile, Webb ran a best of 4:50.49 on the year. In the Class B state meet he ran to a podium finish with a 4:51.33 good for 4th.

2 Mile

Hampden Academy's Paul Casavant was the only freshman to qualify for states in the two mile, he had his best run at the Class A state meet where he set a personal best 10:29.88 to finish 10th

55m Hurdles

No freshman Hurdlers hit the state qualifying mark. Scarborough's Sam Rusak came the closest run 9.04 which was .04 off the qualifying mark.

High Jump

Sam Rusak was the only freshman to hot the 5-8 state meet qualifying standard, he cleared a best of 5-10 on the season. At the Class A state meet he cleared 5-10 to finish in a tie in 7th place.

Long Jump

Triple Jump

Lee Tasker of Noble was the top freshman triple jumper this winter, he jumped a best of 36-1 1/2. He finished 3rd in the Southernwestern Jr triple Jump.

Pole Vault

Sam Rusak was the top vaulter by over 2ft. Rusak jumped a best of 12-11 on the season, that mark ranked him 9th amongst all freshman in the country. He also jumped 12-6 in the Class A state meet to finish 3rd overall.

Shot Put

Biddeford's Matt Brady was the only freshman to throw over 40ft this winter, while he didn't make the state meet he did throw a best of 41-0.75 which was good enough to finish 2nd in the Southwesterns Jr Shot Put.
