Hampden Academy girls & Old Town boys win PVC large school titles

Despite winning just 3 events the Hampden Academy Broncos won the PVC large school title by 26 points over Brewer with quality depth. Hampden got wins from Erin Jeter in the javelin (96-5), Elizabeth Labun in the 3200m (12:07.17) & Krystal Grant in the 100m (12.97).

Brewer's Synclaire Tasker won the 100m hurdles in a state leading 15.32 which was just the start of her day. Synclaire would dominate the 300m hurdles winning by almost 3 second with her 46.44. Tasker would also win the 200m in 26.49, which is a Class A leading mark. Rounding out her day she added her 4th win in the triple jump, her mark of 35-5 3/4 moved her to Class A #1. For her four wins Synclaire was selected as the the performer of the meet; heading into the state meet she's seeded to score 40 points.

Ellsworth's Aleta Looker also had a strong day on the track. Looker started her day with a win in the 1600m (5:20.15), then placed 2nd in the 400m (60.45), before winning the 800m in a strong 2:16.70. Looker's time in the 800m broke the PVC Championship record of 2:17.05

Hermon's Kaitlin Saulter lowered her state leading mark in the 400m to 58.08 as she had an impressive victory. She also ran a leg on the victorious 4x100m team who is the fastest in the Class B with their 51.89 clocking & was on the winning 4x400m team (4:20.42)

Mt Desert Island won the 4x800 in a Class B leading time of 10:06.42

Ellsworth's Elizabeth Perry was a double winner as she took the shot put (34-9 1/4) & discus (101-0)

Old Town was the only team to score over 100 points as the coyotes tallied 114 points for a 16 point margin over runner-up Bangor. Sprinter Nicolas Boutin provided 20 individual points with wins in the 100m (11.47) & 200m (23.32) and also provided a leg on the record breaking 4x100m relay who ran 44.59. Boutin will enter the Class B state meet as the #1 seed in all three events.

Old Town also got a big day from Charles Moody who won the long jump with a 20-5 leap, the jump was a seasonal best and moves him to Class B #4. Moody added two more wins in the 110m hurdles (16.34) & 300m hurdles (42.85) for 30 individual points, he also ran on the winning 4x100 relay

Ellsworth's Dan Curts ran the second fastest 800m in state history en route to his PVC record breaking 1:53.19 run. Curts also won the 3200m & ran a leg on the winning 4x400m relay.

Brewer's Adam Lufkin won a strong discus competition that saw several big throws. Lufkin got it out to a personal best 154-1 to take the win, the distance ranks him #2 in the state. Jarid Leonard of Hampden threw 140-2 which is Class A #4, & Dan Cox of Ellsworth was third with a Class B #2 effort 139-11.

Chapin McFarland of MDI won the shot put with a strong distance of 51-9 1/2, he is the current state leader.
