New 2 mile all-time Maine best for Curts at Brooks PR

Ellsworth senior Dan Curts concluded his outstanding high school career with a record breaking performance for 2 miles at the Brooks PR meet in Seattle, WA on Saturday. Curts running against some of the best talent in the United States finished 9th overall, clocking a personal best 9:00.18 for the distance.

Dan started the race out strong running in third place for the first 3 laps of the race, he would cover the first mile in 4:31. The pace picked up a bit after the mile mark, and Curts fought to hang on. The pace would slow on the penultimate lap, and Dan regained contact with the lead pack. The last lap was all out as Grant Fisher of Grand Blanc, MI showed he was the class of the field, as he covered the final lap in 58 second to win in 8:51.28. Dan would push hard just missing the 9 minute barrier, but the time was fast enough to replace Maine all-time best of 9:02.72 from former South Portland standout Eric Giddings.

The senior ends his senior year with quite a resume. Dan won the Class B state individual title, qualified for the Footlocker National XC Championship, won the Class B indoor mile & 2 mile titles, before moving onto outdoors where he won the Class B 1600m, 800m, & 3200m titles. Along the way he ran all-time Maine bests for the indoor 2 mile (9:07.24), outdoor 3200m (8:51.24), & outdoor 2 mile (9:00.18). He also broke the Class B 1600m state meet record (4:09.88), which was second fastest time ever by a Maine athlete. Dan also ran the third fastest 800m in state history 1:53.19.

Curts has left his mark and now will move on to Iowa State University in the fall.
