MESSALONSKEE BOYS UPSET MT BLUE by Brian Kelly

Messalonskee bunched their #2-#5 runners in a 20 second pack to come away with a two point victory over Mt. Blue on the Cougars home course today.

Mt. Blue was strong up front with Aaron Willingham (17:19) and Dan Lesko (17:27) leading the way over the hilly 5K course. Messalonskee's Owen Concaugh (18:54) placed 3rd overall.

The next 10 runners finished within a span of 34 seconds and it was from this pack that Messalonskee pulled out the meet. Grabbing spots 4 through 13 were: Ben Blaisdell (Lawrence), Natale Cardillo (Mess), Carson Bessey (Mess), Brenden Hickey (MB), Zach Hoyle (Mess), Anthony Amalfitano (Mess), Mason Cooper (Law), Tucker Barber (MB), Isaiah Reid (MB), and Sam Brenner (Spruce Mt.).

MT BLUE GIRLS DOMINATE AT HOME MEET

The young Mt. Blue Cougar girls took the top three spots and placed 5 in the top 9 to earn a convincing victory with 23 points in a home meet. Messalonskee (46) edged MCi (56) for 2nd place.

Mt. Blue Sophomore Maggie Hickey ran away from the pack with a time of 22:34. Freshmen teammates River Lisius and Meg Charles grabbed the next two spots just ahead of Messalonskee's Avery Brenner.

The remainder of the top 10 were Savannah Tuttle (Mess), Megan Noble (MCI), Abi Bergdoll (MCI), Miriam Cohen (MB), Emily McCarthy (MB), and Isabella Enriquez (MCI).

Anne Guadalupi of Cony scored a 21 second win over Waterville's Lauren Brown, while Morse edged Camden Hills 54-57. On the boys side Chris Walfield of Morse scored a win over Chris Cote of Waterville 17:14 to 17:48, these two are contenders for the Class B individual title. Teamwise Belfast 63 eeked out a one point win over Camden Hills

Freshman Luke Laverdiere open his HS in style a 16:33.77 5k win over Matt Malcom of NYA by 31 seconds, the future is here! Hannah Austin wins second in a row with a quick 20:09. Merriconeag boys with 37 edge Freeport by 2. Yarmouth girls are the top team.

Hampden Academy boys open with a strong showing with a 1-2-3 showing led by Caleb Lord's 17:13 win. On the girls side the Broncos dominate with Elizabeth Labun is impressive with a sub 20 clocking, 19:59.45

Meet Results

Harrison Knowlton of Leavitt took the boys race covering the tough 5k layout in 18:10, while Brunswick's Tessa Cassidy won by over minute as she clocked 21:14.

WMC: Cape, Kennebunk, Traip, York @ Wells

York boys show they are for real as they take down a short-handed Cape Elizabeth team 24-49. Kyle Kennedy impressive with a 57 second victory. On the girls side Rhoen Fiutak of Cape Elizabeth runs to the individual win, while Cape take the team win 22-40 over a much improved York squad.

Scarborough boys & Massabesic girls open up with wins at SMAA Relays

The SMAA Relays marks the official start of a new year in Class A West! After a few preseason invitational’s, the league met up for its annual 1.54 mile showdown today at Thornton Academy. Scarborough’s Jacob Terry and Gorham’s Anna Slager were the top finishers on the day with Terry covering the course in 7:41 and Slager running an impressive 9:10.
