Guiliani uncorks a bomb: 65'6 new state all-time best

South Portland junior Daniel Guiliani smashed the Maine all-time best in the shot put with his 65-3 effort on his second throw of his outdoor season.

Entering the meet, Guiliani's outdoor shot put personal best was 54-10 from last season. On his first throw of the competition he heaved the 12lb shot put to a new personal best of 60-6, the second best throw in state history, just off the 60-6 1/4 mark of Thornton Academy's Dam Smith.

On his second attempt, Guiliani connected the speed and power to hit the big throw. The measurement was 65-6, had the coaches and fans excited at what they just saw. Maine has had several excellent throwers throughout the years, and Dan made a statement increasing the all-time best mark by 4'11 3/4". The mark currently ranks him #4 in the country.

With his throw he soared up the all-time New England outdoor shot put list to the #2 mark in history. He only stands behind Jeff Chakouian (Seekonk, MA)

In the discus, Dan also had a big day improving on his personal best of 136-6 from last spring. Dan had a series of 156-6, 164-3, and 160-4 on the day. The 164-3 is the best throw in New England this outdoor season.
