Salute to Seniors: Dylan Smith

Name: Dylan Smith

School: Thornton Academy

What was your most memorable race?

I've had many memorable races, but my most memorable is probably running the anchor leg on this year's 2015 4x100m state champ team.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My biggest competition over the last four years were Jake Dixon, Hany Ramadan, Michael Cuesta, Paolo Demarco and everyone on the Noble 4x100m and 4x400m.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was finally jumping 21 feet.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

If I could do it all over, one thing I would change is running some races harder.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The most difficult obstacles I had to over come were injuries that prohibited me from competing or made me not compete my best.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss the bonds I had and friends from, not just my team, but also all of the other teams. I met so many fun people and appreciated all of the support they gave me and the support my team gave me. We all had a brotherhood because we knew track wasn't an easy thing and we loved to push each other to do well.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

I would tell younger athletes to train and try hard. It will all be worth it at the end. Also to meet as many people you can because you can make some good friendships.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

have great coaches. Each has given me many life and track goals and support, but my coach TQ has had a big impact on me in life, showing me that you can be a coach, but still have fun with your team. Performance-wise my dad always pushed me to go faster, jump farther and to try harder.

What are your college plans?

I plan to run track at the University of Maine, Orono and major in history.

Who would you like to say thank you to?
I would like to thank all my coaches, teammates and friends from other teams for pushing me, supporting me and for all of the good times we had. Also A-squad for all the good times, team dinners at B-dubs and pushing me in practice.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I'd like to give a shout out to Paolo Demarco, Eric Webb, Alex Arnold and Dan Marsh along with the rest of my friends competing next year. Go get it next year. Keep pushing and trying harder and get better. Also, I wish Eric a fast and full recovery.
