2014 State Meet Finish: 1st in Class B State meet 19:17.12

How long have you been running and how did you get started?

I started running when I was in first grade in a very relaxed league where we got popsicles after every race. I wasn't competitive, would usually place in the middle of the pack. and really ran more for the popsicles than the races.

Do you remember your first real race?

I don't remember my first race when I was in first grade, but I remember my first race in eighth grade. I ended up winning, but it took me a long time to believe I had actually won.

How is your summer training going?

It went well. I didn't do as much speed work, but tried to run consistently. I spent a lot of time swimming, playing tennis and doing other activities, which were nice counterbalances to running.

What is your favorite workout?

Long run, especially if you have a friend to do it with!

Which meets will you be running in this year?

All regular season meets and we will also be competing at the Manchester Invitational.

Do you have a favorite course? What do you think is the toughest course in the state?

Twin Brook for both. I think the hills are challenging, but I love how many different sections there are in a Twin Brook race. I always have a good idea of how much is left and can mentally check each part off when I am feeling tired!

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

Winning Class B states as a team was definitely, hands down the best moment of my running career. To watch our team transform from the first practice to the last meet was incredible and sharing that experience with wonderful friends and teammates was amazing.

What are your goals for the upcoming cross country season?

I would love to lower my PR to about 18:30 or so. Also, I would love for our team to be repeat state champions. That is definitely my #1 most important goal.

What do you love most about running?

Whenever I am frustrated about something, I go for a run and it is amazing how when I come back, the anger has completely dissipated.

Finish the sentence Katherine Leggat-Barr is.. sad that summer is over.

Do you have a favorite quote?

You miss 100% of the shots you never take. -Wayne Gretzsky

Do you have any pre-race rituals or routines?

I actually don't. I try to get a lot of sleep before a race but that is basically it.

What is your favorite food?

Brownies with raspberry sauce.

What was the last movie you saw and what did you think of it?

Ahh it is a bit embarrassing, but I saw Frozen with my little cousin a couple days ago. I had never seen it before, and I thought it was pretty good!

What brand of shoes do you train/race in?

Asics or Mizuno

What professional athlete would you like to meet the most?

Probably Allyson Felix or Abby Wambach.

What is something most people don't know about you?

My nine-year old brother Tommy is my biggest xc fan.

Lastly, if you were stranded on an island with three things what would they be?

A friend or family member, my dog Sadie and peanut butter.
