Also competing at the Rhode Island Classic was a handful of Deering HS athletes. In the freshman/sophomore boys sprint medley, the team of Jack Lynch, Nick James, Songha Lotha, & Iessa Ramadan took home the title as they clocked 3:58.73 to hold off North Kingstown RI (3:59.51) & LaSalle Academy, RI (3:59.89). Nick James led off for the Rams, and ran a strong 400m leg as he passed the baton in second place to Jack Lynch. Lynch maintained his spot as he handed off to Lotha. Lotha lost one spot but handed the stick to Ramadan in third place for the final 800m leg. Ramadan wasted little time as he made up the small gap in the first 100m, and surged to the lead around the bend. Ramadan would relax his pace as he dropped back to 3rd in laps 2 & 3 laps but as the bell rang the freshman showed he had plenty of run left as he started his move to the front. Ramadan clocked a 30 second last 200 as he pulled away for the win.
