In her own words: Katherine Leggat-Barr - Busy Senior Year

Hello Guys!

I am so sorry for the time since my last blog post, but nobody can truly prepare you for how crazy Senior Fall is! From lots of homework, to college visits, to practice, to applications, there is never a spare moment!

That said, for all the work I've had this fall, I have truly come to appreciate running even more. I know that when I go to practice, I will be able to completely clear my head, and forget about all the work I have ahead of me. My history teacher said it best, as my class was stressed about college applications. He told us to continue to do what we loved, because especially at a busy and challenging time such as Senior Fall, extracurricular activities are more important than ever. Without running to clear my head, I'm not sure how I would deal.

Although I have appreciated running more than ever this fall, it's important to recognize how stress in other parts of your life can have an adverse effect on your running. Chronic lack of sleep, and having your mind occupied with other distractions, sometimes takes its toll. There have been days that I haven't been able to push myself as hard at practice because I had been doing work until the wee hours of the morning. There is only so much energy that your mind can devote to activities, and it's important to recognize that other demands can sometimes make a complete focus on training more challenging.

I hope you are all super excited for regionals! We have all been working so hard this season, and I can't wait to see what happens when we all put it out there. Make sure to get a lot of sleep and hydrate well so we can all do our best come November 5th!

Happy running,

Katherine
