Returning Champions: Juliana Selser Class A 800m

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

My goals for the upcoming season are to stay healthy and pr (which is a pretty common goal, i think). I would like to specifically improve my times in the 800 and the 400.

What have you done to improve in the off-season?

I have done a lot of training in the off season, which is something that I haven't previously done, so I am pretty hyped about this year.

What does a typical week look like for you training wise?

For me my weeks really differ. I usually look at what my goal times are and base my training around that, or around what race I plan on running in the next meet.

What competitions are you most looking forward to this season?

I am most looking forward to states and New Englands. I would really like to qualify for nationals this year because I didn't get to go indoor last year.

What was one thing you learned last year that will help you the most this season?

Last year I learned that I really love the 800. Previously I didn't really love track, but over time I have come to appreciate the sport more. This will help me because I will want to work harder to improve.

Do you have any pre-race rituals or routines?

I listen to music before races, or I sometimes kick a soccer ball around with my sister. I have asthma so taking my inhaler is definitely a big part of my pre-race routine. Mostly I just nervously pace around our team area, or cheer my other teammates on.

Who is your favorite athlete?

My favorite track athlete is David Rudisha because he is such an incredible runner and he is pretty chill about the whole world-record-holder thing. He also works really hard. My favorite athlete overall is probably Iniesta because he plays soccer so beautifully.

My favorite food to eat the night before a meet is definitely Annies mac and cheese and broccoli.

What is the best piece of advice anyone has given you?

The best piece of advice that anyone has ever given me was to believe in myself. Thats so important in sports because you can really mentally psych yourself out. Especially in a race as challenging as the 800.
